The careers of drummer Teun Verbruggen and keyboards player Jozef Dumoulin move in ways that are as divergent as they are parallel. Both are highly in demand musicians that studied with some of Belgium’s most respected music teachers, but also managed to break out of the traditional moulds by immediately expanding their stylistic palette, grasping opportunities to collaborate with like-minded musicians and embrace technological possibilities.

For Verbruggen, that means you’re as likely to hear him besides popular jazz pianist Jef Neve as in the international avant-garde jazz band The Bureau of Atomic Tourism, the slightly deranged big band Flat Earth Society or countless short-lived or more steady projects. Dumoulin has also led his own bands, while appearing with several genre-bending colleagues as well. More recently, he recorded the first solo album for Fender Rhodes (which he started to play in 2000), and he formed the Red Hill Orchestra, with New York stalwarts Ellery Eskelin and Dan Weiss.

They have performed together on many occasions and in bands like Othin Spake, but the duo setting might be one of the finest to display their intuitive strengths, keen sense of interplay and open-minded approach towards improvisation. From densely layered interaction that’s firmly rooted in the 21^st-century attitude and dreamy, minimalist soundscapes to pulsating electronics, skittery miniatures and jazzy interludes; the interaction between these is always exploratory and guaranteed to tickle the senses and sharpen your appetite for sonic adventure.
