However, with the advent of brass instruments, it seemed to have fallen into disfavor for a while.
Recently, young musicians have begun to take up the clarinet in droves. The full and rich sound is comfortable only for woodwinds.
This is a duo live performance with Anna Matsuoka on piano.

Atsushi Miyawaki
Born in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Taught himself to play Jazz Clarinet after watching "The Benny Goodman Story" when he was in the 3rd grade of elementary school.
He was a soloist in the "21st Yokosuka City Concert for Children. After entering the Jazz Department of Senzoku College of Music, he studied Jazz Clarinet under Eiji Taniguchi and Tetsuro Kawashima. Studied classical music under Ayako Oura and music theory under Taika Makita.
While in college, he made a movie. While in college, he played clarinet on the song "Moonlight Serenade" in the movie "In a Corner of the World" directed by Sunao Katabuchi and based on the novel by Fumiyo Konno. He participated in Tetsuro Kawashima's new album "Water Song" on tenor saxophone.
After graduation, he has been playing clarinet in his own band "Miyawaki Jun & Jun Quartet", "Ethnic Music Yosoroizu", "wolly bears big band", and various other bands. Recently, he released his first album "Ethnic Music Yosoroーズ". He also won the Grand Prix and the Performance Award at the 6th Chigusa Awards. He released a leader album "SCENERY". He also played clarinet in NHK's special Saturday drama series "Shonen Torajiro. Recently, he released his first album "TRANK OF THREE" with "WOOD FORD" based in Yokohama.
She is active at live houses in Yokosuka, Yokohama, Tokyo, etc.

 

Anna Matsuoka
Started playing the piano at the age of 2.5 and composing music at the age of 4. She graduated from Toho Girls' High School of Music and Toho Gakuen School of Music with a Bachelor's degree in piano. After completing graduate studies at Toho Gakuen School of Music, she moved to the U.S., where she studied classical music at the Juilliard School of Music and began to play jazz piano in earnest. He received a scholarship to attend the New School University's Jazz and Contemporary Music Department, where he graduated with honors and at the top of his class.
She won the first prize in the piano section of the 15th Changjiang Cup International Music Competition and the Consul General Prize of China in Osaka. She won the Gold Prize in the Graduate Student Division at the 5th Concorso MusicaArte in Italy, and the Grand Prix in the Specialty Division at the 2014 Japan Piano Audition. He won the first prize in the Solo Division of the 12th 21st Century Piano Competition.
In 2020, he won the Grand Prix at the 7th Chigusa Award, a gateway to success for young jazz musicians. The award was reported in Asahi Shimbun, Yokohama Keizai Shimbun, Mainichi Shimbun, Kanagawa Shimbun, and Yahoo News.
As a complimentary prize, the first album "Wonder Forest" was released from Chigusa Records in March 2021.
Articles about the album were featured in the Asahi Shimbun, Yomiuri Shimbun, Tokyo Shimbun, Disk Union's official website, Tokyojin magazine, and the jazz magazine "The Walker's".
A recording live concert is held at the long-established jazz club "Sakuragicho DOLPHY" to a full house, and the live performance is featured in the jazz information magazine "HAMAJAZZ".

Their first album was well received, and their second album "Melancholic rouge" was released from T-Tech Records in 2022. Composed and recorded all the original songs that were requested.
Articles about the album appeared in the magazines "Jazz Japan", "Jazz Critic", "Tokyojin", and "Radio and Experiment".
Appeared on NHK's "Close-Up Today+", which was also broadcast internationally, and on NHK's "Metropolitan Area Network" with a performance of the Yokohama Jazz Promenade and an interview. Also broadcast on NHK's "Hiramae Hot".
Produced and directed the Toho Gakuen School of Music Rainbow 21 Suntory Hall Debut Concert, in which he also performed. She was selected for a public master class at The Juilliard School for Music with Seymour Bernstein, who stars in the film "Mr. Seymour and the Introduction to Life for Adults".
He is currently actively performing in Tokyo and the Kanto area.
