ITOU YUJI

Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1991.

Shortly after his birth, he moved to Chiba Prefecture and spent his childhood with an affinity for music under the influence of his older brother.

At the same time as entering Tomisato Prefectural High School, he joined the jazz orchestra club, studied jazz under his advisor Masaki Shinohara (tp), and began teaching himself the bass.

Soon after, he met Rodney Whitaker (b), who came to Japan as a member of the Yutaka Shiina (pf) Trio, and since then he has been devoted to jazz.

During his studies, he gave joint concerts with Michigan State University, where he is a professor, and Monterey State Selectors, as well as guest appearances at the annual Next Generation Festival in Monterey.

After graduating, he worked in the suburbs of Chiba Prefecture, and in 2013 moved his base of activities to Tokyo and began performing in earnest.

In addition to energetically performing leader live performances such as Yuji Ito's Trio and EniGmA, mainly in the Tokyo metropolitan area, he has participated in many groups and albums such as Yoshiro Okazaki (tp), Yutaka Shiina (pf), Mao Sone (tp, pf), Seiji Tada (as), Akane Ezawa (as), Akiha Nakajima (as), Tomoaki Baba (ts), Patrick Bartley (as), and Takayuki Yagi (pf).

In November 2018, he performed with the world's best drummer Herlin Riley as a member of the Yutaka Shiina Trio, and has been expanding his field of activity in recent years.

In November 2019, he released his first album [MySeasons], which has received widespread acclaim.
