Artist Introductions

Mai Shibata (篠笛 / vocal)
Originally trained on classical piano from the age of four, Mai transitioned to shinobue (Japanese bamboo flute) after being deeply moved by the “Spartacus Love Theme.” She studied under Jun Oka and later expanded into singing, shamisen, and sanshin. Her musical expression spans jazz, Portuguese and Japanese song, folk, and Latin rhythms. She is known for creating hauntingly nostalgic, emotionally resonant arrangements that touch the Japanese soul.

Hajime Kobayashi (piano)
Based in Tokyo, Kobayashi is a pianist celebrated for his wide stylistic range—from stride and classic jazz to modern harmonies. He is known for collaborating fluidly across genres and has supported prominent artists on numerous recordings. He recently announced this very performance, backing Shibata and Arai on social channels. 

Kentarō Arai (bass)
Active in Tokyo’s jazz circuits, Arai is often cited in connection with Kobayashi and live sets at Toi-Own. His bass work provides strong rhythmic and harmonic support in jazz, classical, and crossover settings.
