Takayuki Yagi [Pianist]
Born in Kyoto, Takayuki Yagi is a jazz pianist who refined his artistry in the heart of New York City. He immersed himself in the bebop tradition under the mentorship of legends such as Walter Bishop Jr., Ronnie Mathews, Barry Harris, Norman Simmons, and Frank Hewitt. His musical depth further expanded through an Artist-in-Residence program in Japan, where he studied under the esteemed composer Frederick Tillis.
Yagi’s exceptional talent earned early acclaim when he captured the Grand Prize at the 24th Asakusa Jazz Contest. Since then, he has established an international presence, collaborating and recording with jazz luminaries including Ben Williams, Rodney Green, Jay Anderson, Billy Drummond, Scott Wendholt, and Ralph Bowen. His sophisticated style has consistently resonated on the global stage, leading him to become a two-time finalist in Italy’s prestigious 7virtual Jazz Club Contest (2022, 2024).
Now based in Tokyo, Yagi leads his own trio, crafting a unique musical voice that masterfully bridges the profound roots of Bebop with a modern, contemporary sensibility.
