Gary “Mani” Mounfield passed away suddenly on November 20 last year.
Through his work with The Stone Roses and Primal Scream, he was a rare bassist who continued to create grooves that have been loved across generations. A large-scale memorial event is scheduled for next month in his hometown of Manchester. It promises to be a night where we can once again experience the atmosphere of that city and reconnect with “that bassline” that has always been at the heart of UK music culture since the 1990s.
Here in Tokyo, too, we will hold a memorial event to honor and express our gratitude to him, a figure beloved by music fans worldwide. It will be a night to relive, through sound, the spirit of Mani, who effortlessly crossed the boundaries between indie rock and dance culture, constantly bridging the gap between the floor and the stage. On the day of the event, we will welcome Spike Islands, a Stone Roses tribute band, to authentically recreate the atmosphere of that era. Additionally, our lineup of DJs will fill the dance floor with sets that carry on the grooves and spirit he loved.
The venue is CLUB Que, where Mani himself once performed as a DJ. Let’s spend the evening immersed in music at this place where his legacy lives on, and once again feel the magnitude of his presence.
This is a night not just for mourning, but for sharing the music and joy he left behind—we hope you’ll join us.
