Yumiko Tanaka Music Laboratory 2025 - Gidayu Shamisen Sound Experimental
-Unleashing the acoustic world of the Gidayu shamisen, a traditional Japanese musical instrument, in the present day.

Gidayu shamisen is an accompaniment instrument for the Gidayu-bushi (Joruri) used in Bunraku puppet theatre and Kabuki theatre.
It has a larger body and thicker neck and strings than a regular thin-necked shamisen, and is characterized by its rich overtones and deep, lingering bass sound.
Following last year's recital, which won the 24th Keizo Saji Award from Suntory Foundation for the Arts, this year's recital will explore its fascinating tone with the help of the best artists of contemporary music, electronics, generative AI and jazz.
