Asakawa Maki Tribute Night “DARKNESS – Noboru”
Open 18:30 / Start 19:30 (2 stages)
Description
A deep, soulful tribute to Maki Asakawa, the smoky-voiced poet who defined an era of underground Japanese music.
Two powerful female artists—Hime Shiro Punch and Mona Shima—bring her songs back to life through their own contemporary sensibilities, weaving shadows, sensuality, and rebellion into sound.
Supported by Mayu Kikuchi on piano, this night promises an emotional journey through darkness and light, echoing Asakawa’s spirit in the heart of Koenji.
Artists
Hime Shiro Punch (vocal)
Born into a family of Japanese dancers and actors, Hime grew up surrounded by the stage. A graduate of Musashino Art University, she combines the expressive discipline of traditional arts with the freedom of chanson and avant-garde jazz. Her performances are both theatrical and intimate—rooted in Japanese lyricism yet boldly contemporary. She continues to explore the emotional depth of Asakawa’s legacy through her own translations and interpretations.
Mona Shima (vocal/piano)
A singer-songwriter and pianist from Okinawa, Mona’s musical journey began when she discovered the voice of Maki Asakawa on an old CD. Blending chanson, jazz, and original compositions, her sound balances warmth and melancholy. She has performed widely as both solo artist and collaborator, crafting performances that fuse poetry, storytelling, and cinematic soundscapes.
Mayu Kikuchi (piano)
Known for her delicate yet dynamic style, Mayu bridges chanson, jazz, and pop with emotional precision. Her piano work adds depth and atmosphere, enhancing the expressive power of every song she touches.
