The second installment of the “Experimental Musical Instruments Festival”—a unique music event held in April that garnered rave reviews—is back. This festival features artists who, unsatisfied with conventional instruments, create or modify their own instruments, invent sound-producing devices, or produce sound using non-musical objects… all in pursuit of original musical expression unlike anything anyone has ever heard, through a variety of techniques and performance styles.

The lineup features Yuichi Onoue, known for his work with the experimental instrumental combo “Wananabani-en” and the homemade instrument duo “Sanpin”; Honey stt (Takumi Sato), who stands out with his solo performances on a modified electronic cello; YAOTOME, a vocal duo featuring the German-originated Daxophone and what could be called the ultimate form of a homemade instrument—the human voice; and UBATAMA, the festival’s organizer, who performs a ritual of sound using a collection of artistic homemade instruments.

既成の楽器に飽き足らず、楽器を自作／改造したり、音の鳴る装置を発明したり、楽器ではない器具で音を奏でたり・・・様々な手法や演奏スタイルで、誰も聴いたことのないオリジナル音楽表現を求めて活動するアーティストによるユニークな音楽イベントとして4月に開催され好評を博した『創作楽器フェス』の第2弾が開催。

エクスペリメンタル・インスト・コンボ「ワナナバニ園」や自作楽器デュオ「サンピン」で活躍する「尾上祐一」、チェロを改造した電子楽器の弾き語りで異彩を放つ「蜂蜜stt（佐藤拓実）」、ドイツ発祥の創作楽器ダクソフォンと自作楽器の究極形と言えるヴォイスのデュオ「YAOTOME」、そしてフェス主催でアート性を備えた自作楽器群で音の儀式を執り行う「うばたま」。
