The Metaphors: a clanking, clanging, ringing, rattling, thumping celebration of barely-under-control rhythm and broken blues. Like some giant, spider-like contraption, squeaking and clattering as it scurries over a pile of scrap metal and abandoned drums, the Metaphors rustle up all manner of percussive clutter and somehow form it into a propulsive, swirling mass of curiously pleasing sound.
With Marcos Fernandes on frame drum, talking drum, etc, Hiroshi Shimizu on bells, cymbals, scrap metal and more, and Samm Bennett on diddley bow (made entirely of cast off junk materials!), the band's membership is comprised of three percussionists ever ready to fire the spark plugs, kick the tires and keep the machine careening down the highway of rattles and thuds. The cranking rhythms are topped off with Samm Bennett's blues-inflected shouts, hollers, wails, exclamations and songs of trains, death, love and dust.
