Famed for their intricate pop dreamscapes and ‘that’ song from the iPod advert, Chairlift are a band who need little introduction. Caroline Polachek and Patrick Wimberly will be hitting Japan with not one, but two unique shows to celebrate the release of their Japan-only 7” pressing of their track “I Belong in Your Arms” from the new LP, Something, which is being distributed by Big Love in Japan.

The EP was recorded over 18 months; between the back of an antique store in Brooklyn and the basement of a family home in Streatham, London. Something contrasts starkly with their first album; brimming with a dark brooding guilt and giving a passing nod to the driving, anthemic albums of the mid-90s. 

You can catch Chairlift in Tokyo at an intimate live performance on October 10th at Under Deer Lounge in Shibuya, followed by a special ‘club style’ performance for Tokyo Indie x Vanity at Trump Room on October 12th, which will involve the pair DJing and weaving in reworks of their own tracks with live vocals. バンドの名前を知らなくとも、少し前のApple iPodのコマーシャルでつかわれた”あの”曲を聴けば、”あっ！”とピンとくる人は、多いかもしれない。チェアリフトは、現在、キャロライン・ポラチェクとパトリック・ウィムバーリーによるニューヨークは、ブルックリンを拠点に活動している2005年に結成された2人組。今まで"Does You Inspire You" (2008)、"Something" (2012)といった2枚のフルアルバム、そして数々のEPをリリースしてきている。彼らの仲間であるMGMT,YEASAYER,GRIZZLY BEARなどのサポートもあったり、"あの”曲 "BRUISES"や"Evident Utensil"が2009年のMTV MUSIC AWARDの"BREAKTHROUGH"ビデオにノミネートされるなど徐々にチェアリフトの名前は世界レベルで浸透してきている。

日本ではBig Love Recordsが流通させている珠玉のドリーム・シンセポップが眩い名作2ndアルバム"サムシング！”　そしてアルバムから、"I Belong in Your Arms"の日本オンリーのシングル盤、まさかの日本語ヴァージョン　”あなたの腕で抱かれたい"のリリースのタイミングでこの度、初来日公演を敢行！

チェアリフトのライブ日程は、10月10日（水）渋谷のファイアー通りにあるアンダーディアー・ラウンジにて。共演には、サイケデリック・エクスペリメンタル・ノイズ・ドリーミー・サウンド・スケープとプロジェクションを駆使した強烈な個性で結成間もないながらも、LAのミュージシャンの中でかなりの話題にのぼり、ライブでは、Red Hot Chili PeppersのFleaがベースで参加したり、今回のMaroon 5の日本武道館公演のオープニングに抜擢されたりと大注目のLAの3人組、ESP。そして東京のエレクトロニクス＋ヴァイオリンという編成の女性2人組、Throbbing Gristle,Suicide,Rip Rig & Panicなどを彷彿させるエレクトロニック・アート・ノイズ・ユニット、groupAといったアップカミングで個性的なラインアップが勢揃いした。

そして10月12日（金）TOKYO INDIE x VANITY主催、渋谷TRUMP ROOMでは、メンバーによるDJ＋ライブ・ヴォーカルといったかたちの特別な "CLUB STYLE"のパフォーマンスを予定。現在はGotyeのツアーをサポートしたりと海外では、さらなる認知度、飛躍を遂げている中のチェアリフトの初来日公演、キャロラインは、その昔、日本に在住していた事もあるので彼女にとっても特別なホームカミング的意味合いもあったり。プレミアムなこの機会、これは見逃せない！
